Conroe CPU benchmark

Hi,

Has anyone done a benchmakr on the new Intel Core 2 Duo (Conroe) processors? These have the same internal core as the Woodcrest so I expect the same perfromance. If anyone has one of these processors can you please post some benchmark data.

Thanks Darrin

Re: Conroe CPU benchmark

After my orginal posting I managed to get my hands on a DELL Optiplex 745(1.8GHZ Intel Core 2 Duo, 2MB cache). This processor has the same architecutre as the Woodcrest CPU but is aimed at the desktop market.

This is a basic desktop retailing for about $1,800 AUD.

The results of the CFX-10 SP1 benchmark are (CPU time): Serial: 153 s Parallel (PVM): 101 s Parallel (MPI): 95 s

Re: Conroe CPU benchmark

How many partitions for the parralel runs? 2? Your "MPI" = "MPICH" ?

Results for a 2x Opteron 275 2.2 Ghz under Linux 64 bit:

Serial: 176 s Parallel 2 parts (PVM): 87 s Parallel 2 parts (HP MPI): 86s Parallel 2 parts (MPICH): 97s

Considering that those Opterons cost ~USD 1000 each a year ago, the Conroe is a steal. They also overclock VERY well. That chip could easily do 3 Ghz.

Quad core Conroes launched today. The top speed one only i.e. overpriced. The cheaper ones e.g. Q6600 is due in January. It would make a very nice commodity cluster chip.

The parallel runs used two partiations. This was to test the communication between the cores.

All test were done with Windows XP SP2 as the OS. MPI does stand for MPICH.

I agree that the Conroes are a steal compared to Opteron's.
