Dear All,

2 stupid questions.

1. Just want to run multiple cases (different meshs, physics, directories, ect) overnight to save some time. However, running batch looks not so straightforward in CFX. Are there any way to use the Solver Manager Window to define the batch run? I tried to select "start solver in batch" in the "operation ("Write Solver File" window)", but met a wrong message "writemms exited with non-zero return code 1". I read the "starting CFX-Solver from the Command Line" part in HELP doc. Still no idea. 2. CFX writes some temp files while running. How can control the temp files? For example, which parameter in CCL can control CFX to write the intermediate results every 10 steps?

Thanks in advance.

Dear Snowshovel,

The answers are explained in the documentation.

1 - You can start from CFX-Pre with the Start Solver in batch mode. Any error means you found a problem somewhere. It should just work.

From the command line, just use

cfx5solve -def mycase.def &

2 - In CFX-Pre go to Output Control section and you can define backup files, transient files, and more..

Please refer to the documentation for additional information.

Dear Opaque,

Thank you for your help. ************************************************** ********* 1 - You can start from CFX-Pre with the Start Solver in batch mode. Any error means you found a problem somewhere. It should just work.

From the command line, just use

cfx5solve -def mycase.def & ************************************************** *********

I did try what you said already. I opened one def file in CFX-Pre (It seems CFX-Pre only can open one file at one time), then chose Start solver in batch mode when writing the def file. Then the error message in my first post came up. I tried a few def files. Same problem.

Second, I tried the cmd. Just like the way you indicated. The only difference is I added the directories.

cfx5solve -def \..\..(directory\one case.def & \..\..(another directory)\another case.def

Maybe the directories are too long. CFX's error message is "no def in the directories" (the directories is truncated).I'm wondering how CFX knows where the def files are if I don't give the whole directories. Or, CFX uses some other ways to define the batch run. Sorry, I didn't find any cmd sample in the help documents.

Thanks.

Just found one way to make it work.

First, getting into one def file directory. then input

cfx5solve -def OneCase.def & ..(back one directory)\..\..\many backs\..\another case directory\another case.def

then, no error message pop up. And, it seems the computer is running. However, don't know if CFX can run the second case for me now. Just don't know the reason why CFX cannot take the whole directories as an input option.

Anybody has a better way for the batch run?

Thanks a lot.

Dear Snowshovel,

Usually people write their own .bat files to batch their runs.

I think that your file/directory names contains blanks in them.. I do not recall if ANSYS CFX 10.0 was having problems with that on Windows based machines..

Just a thought..

Dear Opaque,

Thank you very much for reminding me of the .bat files. I totally forgot this option w/o your suggestion.

I just created batch files with only one run in each command line. Just a few DOS command, it worked great. Now, I can walk around while running multiple cases. Thanks a lot!

I like this forum, and CFX, better and better.

Have a good weekend.
