Monitoring integral functions on section planes

hi, I have to simulate pulsating flow through a pipe. I want to monitor with time the momentum flux at different section planes. I tried to create surfaces in ICEMCFD and created parts out of them but they are not appearing in CFX-pre.

Hi,
CFX11 has some new functionality where you can define arbitrary sections and perform CEL functions on it. I have not used it (yet) so am not familiar with how it works but have a read of the documentation and it should describe it. Glenn Horrocks |

Hi Prabhu,
The new CEL functionality is only in CFX11. In CFX10 the only way to do CEL expressions on arbitrary planes was to create an interface or similar at that location. I has been released a week or so back so if you have current maintenance you are entitled to it. You can download it from the ANSYS customer website. Glenn Horrocks |

In ICEM you already have split your volume into separate parts using surfaces. Good. Now, do the following steps:
1) you have to define bodies (material points) for each separate volume; 2) create the mesh; 3) Read it in in Pre. You will find all the different bodies. Now you can create a domain for each volume and connect them using GGI's (1-1 connection); 4) In the expressions section you have to define area integral variables like: aIVar=areaInt(variable)@GGI; 5) In the OUTPUT CONTROL section you have to select that you want to monitor this espression. Perhaps it is not necessary to create several domains. It might also be possible to create just one domain and subdomains for each subvolume. Then you can select the sufaces of the subdomains to create the areaIntegral expressions. Perhaps it is necessary to introduce an extra step between 4 and 5. If it not possible to monitor an expression, you might have to create an unspecific additional variable, equal to the expression. Then monitor this additional variable.
