Edges association in ICEM
 

Hello. Im doing a block mesh for a spiral case (turbines). Is there any way to remove the default association that puts ICEM to the curves, BUT avoiding the "No association" of the edge (that convert to blue color).

That is because when I deleted the default association the edge converts to blue, and all the edges association become crazy. (I need the white edge, but with no curve-point association).

You can associate an edge to a surface.

yes, but when I associate that, I dont have any control, ICEM put me an association (wrong in my case). Thanks alot.santiago

You have to assign the face to the surface first, then the edges belonging to that face should associate to the correct surface.

I am doing a block mesh for a disk inside a cylinder. I create a block and I split it into different parts, I also associate all the edges to the curves. Now after I saved my blocking I need to delete a specific edge association and I can't find the way to delete it. Is there any way to delete an edge association that already created?

What do you mean with "delete an edge association"? Do you want to disassociate one specific edge from the geometry? If so, on Blocking > Associate, search for the fifth option from left to right, "Disassociate from Geometry", click on the arrow to "select edge(s)", click with the left button on the edge you want to disassociate and confirm with the middle button.

ICEM MESH Problem

I am working on a project and I need to mesh a disk with a shaft inside a cylinder. The disk and the shaft are the solid domain and the cylinder is my fluid domain. I have managed to mesh the geometry on ICEM CFD by using the O grid function of the split block. I am checking the quality of my mesh and I see that the outlet of my cylinder doesn't look good (like there is no o grid on the outlet) even though the number of nodes and the blocks are the same as the inlet. You can see the photos of my blocks and my mesh attached.
I don't know if the problem comes from the O grid or from the associations of my edges at the outlet?

If I understood your splitting correctly, you are trying a quadruple O-Grid. Why so many? It doesn't seem that you need all of them. Notice that the edges of the two outermost ones at the bottom are very close to each other. It doesn't look like a pure edge association problem but judging just from the images is hard to tell for certain. If I were you I would start all over again.

Plus: this geometry is way easier to mesh using the 2D to 3D (rotation) meshing strategy. See the ICEM documentation for further advice.

An important piece of advice: post your meshing questions in the ANSYS Meshing and Geometry forum, there is the right place to do so since you get a bigger chance of specialists seeing your question and also others having the same problem may benefit from the answer.

It looks fine from the one side (image 2) and bad from the other (image 1), right? Seems like the bunching is messed up there which happens sometimes when you split blocks. If that really is the problem, just use the tool to set the splits per edge and activate "copy to parallel edges" to get the same spacing at the top and bottom. But also check the associations.
