Clipping Plane
 

Hi there; I know that clip plane will act on all objects in the Viewer, but will not affect other functions such as calculations. I wander if there is a way to make it affects calculations?

You can zero everthing below x=0 by multiplying your variable with step(X). So if you would like to know the average velocity in Plane 1 clipped by a plane at x=0 then use:

2*areaAve(Velocity*step(X))@Plane 1

Provided the clip plane splits your geometry in two. If not you have to use a different correction factor than the '2' in this example, based on the size of the surfaces on both side of the clip plane.

An alternate way to do this is to create a contour plot of X on your plane or region of interest and specify the contour range and number of levels so as to have one contour level on your region of interest.

If you want everything below x=0, define the contour to go from -1 to 1 with 3 contour levels. This will create 2 contour bands, one below x=0 and one above. Now create a User Surface and select the "from contour" option. Pick the contour object you created. Contour level 2 will give you the x<0 part and level 3 will give you the x>0 part. This user surface can be used just like any other location for evaluating expression, creating plots, etc.

Note that you can also do this with contours of other variables.
