Edit/stop run in progress without solver manager

Hi,

I have a couple of questions concerning transient runs:

1) I have a transient run in progress, but cannot log on to the machine. But I can see via a shared drive, that the solver still produces output files (.trn).Is there a way to place a file with a stop coommand in the run directory (similar to CFD-ACE)?

2) Are there other ways (commandline) to stop the run?

3)In case I have to force reboot. How can I restart a transient run? Will thsi work after a forcing the solver to quit?

4)Is it possible to load only the first say 300 transiemnt steps, even if no results file exists?

Thanks in advance,

N.R.

Dear N.R.

cfx5stop -directory full_path_to_my_run_001.dir

Opaque

Thanks opaque!

What if I have no commandline access and can only create files in the run-directory? (question 1) Is there a way?

What about this question?

Is it possible to load only the first say 300 transiemnt steps, even if no results file exists?

Thanks,

N.R.

You can create a stp file inside the .dir folder of the run. The simulation will stop naturally. But if your run is a parellel one using more than one processors, I don't think it will exit naturally (some errors are expected and the run may end up with out writing result file).

Placing a "stp" file in ".dir" folder should stop a parallel run normally too. By the way, that "stp" file should be a blank file without any content.

I have faced problem few times when I tried to stope the solver in that way. It says some kind of communication error between the processors (I do not remember the esact error message now) and quits with out writing the result file. I am not sure what exactly is the error.

Putting an stp file there is no different than writing the final results.

If it fails then this is a bug. Report it to support.

Hi,

I am as well trying to stop a parallel run. What kind of 'stp' file do I need to create? would it be named just 'stp' like mon file or 'stp.stp'?

mvoss June 16, 2015 03:48

Just stp ... no content, no file format. On a Linux like OS think of a "touch stp" command.

I did create a stp file in .dir folder while the run was going on.
But it did not stop the run.
any other ideas?

Opaque's post #2 describes the recommended way of stopping a run from the command line.

kar.coep June 17, 2015 01:53

After entering CFX5stop command, it says 'The Process will stop shortly'

But it continues till the maxiterations

You need to either put the CFX executables in your path, or run it from a command line started from the CFX launcher as this automatically puts the correct path in.
