Combining Transient results after a backup

So I was doing a transient simulation and had to back it up and restart it once I got home. So now I have 2 result files, one containing the timesteps up to the point I backed it up, and the other one the rest of the timesteps.

Now I would like to do an animation of the timesteps but can't because their in different files. Anyone have any idea on how to merge all the timesteps into a single file?

Just copy and paste your old time steps into new file or you can add them in CFX post as well. When you click on clock there is an option to add any extra time steps that you have in other folders.

Hope that helps

Tried adding them in CFX Post but it only added the last timestep of the other timesteps.

I've tried copy pasting the timesteps in the firt folder but that didn't work.

Copy and paste in the new folder not in the first one. It should work in CFX post as well. It always does for me.

Actually, you don't need to copy and paste them at all. Just load the final results file and from the timestep selector you can add the earlier trn files by browsing to the other folder and loading them.

I was doing it backwards. I was opening the first timesteps and trying to add the second half. Thanks to all that replied.

Re: Combining Transient results (Another problem)

Ok so I can combine the results now. I have to do it manually, I can't just use the .res file.

But now that it's there, there is no time associated with them. All the added timesteps have a time of 0. This doesn't bother me, however, when I try to make a timestep animation, nothing happens. A video of 0kb is created.

Thats weird to say the least. Are you sure have selected one of the variables like velocity, pressure etc. What happens if you plot lets say velocity as a function of time. Does anything come up on chart?

Actually, I deleted the .cst file and started from a fresh one. The time still comes up as zero everywhere but I am able to make an animation.

YOu should include the .trn files on the folder with same name as the .res you are going to use. If you do that, you will have the times loaded. I'm sure of this because the same happened to me. Bye.
