Import Mesh from ICEM CFD to CFX
Hi
I'm having some difficulties in obtaining a meshed geometry to solve with CFX. I have the geometry in Solidworks and, in order to import the geometry to ICEM CFD for meshing, I use the Parasolid format to export and read the piece geometry in ICEM CFD (Altough I think that might exist better ways of doing this, but I don't have experience...) The problem is when I try to save the mesh in ICEM CFD, to read in CFX. I can't find the right format, can some one help? It seems that ICEM CFD saves the mesh in .uns and the CFX does not read that format in the option Import Mesh ->ICEM CFD... Thank you |
Re: Import Mesh from ICEM CFD to CFX
You need to set the output solver type to CFX (or CFX-5) and export the mesh to CFX. Within CFX-Pre, import the mesh as an ICEM CFD mesh.
The .uns format is only used by ICEM CFD. -CycLone |
Re: Import Mesh from ICEM CFD to CFX
solid works -> IGES file -> Import on ICEM CFD -> tab "Output", choose Solver "ANSYS CFX" and Save as file.cfx5 -> CFX_pre -> open the new simulation -> open file with the mesh -> choose the unit in "mm" and ready!

Thanks for the indications, I made it

Re: Import Mesh from ICEM CFD to CFX
Hi Andre
Can I ask how did you export the geometry from solidWorks to ICEM. When I export it solidWorks export the whole geometry as one piece. How did you make different parts in your geometery e.g. Inlet, Outlet, Walls etc. Thanks in advance for your answer. kasim |
Re: Import Mesh from ICEM CFD to CFX
I am constructing the geometries right now and haven't yet made any simulation. But after seeing your message I noted that I have the same problem. Can't really do a thing in CFX... Maybe some one in this forum knows the answer...
Advice, please Best R. Andre |
I tried in ansys 13 in workbench but its not working

I open cfx from workbench and when I try to import mesh made in icem cfd it doesnt read. I did all that saving solver as nastran and other option as ansys cfx. cany some1 help me.? |

If you still have problem, you can import ur geometry in ansys cfx, then auto mesh it there, after that u can save this mesh to ICEM with suffix 'tin'

Dear friends
Hi How can I export ICEM meshing to CFX? |
Hii
I have selected AnsysCFX as solver but not able to find any save as option. There is "save project as" option. Which does save the file in .prj format. Please someone guide. |
On the tab Output mesh/select solver: Ansys CFX. Then on the same tab: Write input.

Thank you Lance i have done that. :) :)

Hi
While importing the ICEM CFD mesh file file to CFX, does the dimension of mesh change? Is it compulsory to import the mesh file in cm ? If i import with mm the dimension of geometry is different from the case if i import in cm. Is there any way to see the coordinate of components and dimensions of imported mesh in CFX-5? Please help. |
Normally the length units are unitless in ICEM, but you can change to what ever you want in Settings/Model-Units. However, it's easy to change the dimensions in CFX if you got them wrong from ICEM. Right-click mesh, transform mesh, scale.

Thank you once again Lance. It was very helpful.
I have one more doubt. While defining a domain of porous medium..we are required to fill are density. Can u please tell me how the density is calculated? I would really be grateful to u for this. please help. |
