icem 2 cfx

hi guys

I was wondering, why CFX doesnt import my mesh correctly in the near of my boundry layer. I got blades with a structured grid with the rest unstructured. when I export it to cfx, my str. grid vanishes and instead I get an unstr. grid.

someone got an idea?!

thx

is it a hyybrid mesh ??

Re: icem 2 cfx

yep .... hybrid mesh.

structured mesh at the airfoil surface, unstructured the rest.

I'm thankfull for any help!

ok.. i'll tell u how i do the hybrid mesh.. suppose the geometry is having 2 parts part "A" and part "B". i want structured mesh in part "A" and unstructured mesh in Part "B". i'll save part "A" and part "B" in different files. In orignal geometry i'll create the surface at the interface then i will seperately mesh those parts.when u do the structured meshing , dont forget to load the mesh from blocking. now i'll open my orignal geometry which is having parts "A" and "B". now from file menu, open mesh in part "A" and then open mesh in part"B". it will say do u want to merge the mesh. say yes. now go to edit mesh.click on merge nodes then click on merge meshes.in merge surface mesh parts, select the the surface "interface" and apply.. this is how u get the hybrid mesh. Dont forget to smooth the mesh to get good quality.in hybrid mesh there is layer of pyramids at the interface. u can check it by expanding volume in "Model tree", u'll see pyramids along with hexhahedra and tetrahedara. save project and write output.. if u do it by this way then u'll get both the meshes.

U'll get both the meshes in CFX.. i'm also using hybrid mesh. it perfectly works in CFX.

thanks for your replys chetan!! I appreciate it!

It's good to know, how to do it an other way, but my problem isn't the mesh-generation .... the problem is somehow exporting it!

my simplified project: I've got an airfoil in 2D. I put a structured mesh on the surface and the rest unstructured. so far no problem... then I extrude the mesh for 1 cell and try to export it. It always says: "error: unrecognized" in yellow letter color.

I tried repairing, check quality, check mesh, etcetc. no help so far...

the thing is ... it HAS worked ONCE, but I don't fu... know how I did that! I tried approx. 150 times, wrote every single step, click, button down ... but no clue.

can you please tell me how you did the 2-D unstructured mesh in ICEMCFD..? i think we cant creat 2D mesh having only triangles. as far as i know there is no option of creating triangular mesh.even if we try to mesh 2D geometry it will mesh it using tetrahedra.

Re: icem 2 cfx

that was also a question i had, a few month ago.

click on the "mesh - mesh spline" menue ... then click on your spline -> apply your parameter like "initial height" "layers" "step ratio" etc.

that's all ... when you want to create bunching, which I didn't want to, the options are down there below.

It helped me much to activate the "show node spacing" ( right click on "splines" in the product tree)
