I have a *.dat file with coordinates of 200 points. How can I inport these points to designmodeler without doing that by hand and point by point?

Thanks in advance

Dear pal, First you need to write coordinates in the following format.

1 1 x1 y1 z1

1 2 x2 y2 z2

1 3 x3 y3 z3 After writing the coordinates in the above manner, you can call the points in the following manner Go To Concept>>3D Curve>>From File This will create a open curve. If you need to make a closed curve use the following syntax in the dat file.

1 1 x1 y1 z1

1 2 x2 y2 z2

1 3 x3 y3 z3

1 0 Regards, Amit

Thank you for your response. I still have a little problem though. The body lines that are created by this way can not be used as base objects for skin/loft or extrude. You see I try to create sketches bases on these coordinates to use the later to create bodies by skin/loft.

Please any ideas? I have to give more than thousands of coordinates and I don't have the time!

Dear Pal,

Design Modeler has a limitation in using refrences. But you can do the same by other method which is available only on Ansys 11.

Construct a Plane.

Insert a Sketch Projection.

Select the curve which you want to use as reference. Then construct your desired feature.(Skin/Loft/Extrude)
