Use of restitution coeff without kinetic theory

Hi,

I am simulating a system with solid particles (dispersed phase) and the water (continuous phase) using Eulerian-Eulerian approach.

Suppose I do not want to use kinetic theory or any other model for solid pressure OR solid bulk/shear viscosity to account the particle-particle collision.

Now, Will there (still) be any use of specifying the restitution coefficient for the dispersed phase? I looked in to the manual but the momentum equations for solid phase are not given in much detail.

Please help.

With very kind Regards, Kushagra

Re: Use of restitution coeff without kinetic theor

I also had read the manual for multiphase flow modeling after you have raised the question for more clarification.

Now, in your case if you are cofident enough that the particles will not transfer momentum to each other then, specifying the restitution coefficient will not be of use.

You have to decide from the nature of particles that you are handling as dispersed phase.

Restitution coefficient

Thanks very much Mehul. Could you please suggest me some reference for estimating the restitution coefficient for different materials? In my case I am using 'Polystyrene' particles. with very kind regards, Kushagra

Re: Restitution coefficient

Sure Kushagra, I have used restitution coefficients for cement material in cyclone seperation. I will have to search in my literature . I will get back to you if I find suitable material in this regard.

Guys i m doing similar kind of simulation.

Why not have a team.

Yes Kumar. I will be very happy to share our knowledge. I am working upon cyclones. How about you?

Hi
How do i define restitution coefficient for kinetic theory in ansys cfx?
Is there any where that I put my value?
