Hello.

I have the task of simulating the heating process of a single-stage turbine, that includes stator, rotor and a solid body of the rotor.

The initial state of a solid body is a uniform temperature of 20°C. During first 10 seconds the rotational speed, pressure and temperature at the turbine inlet are increasing, and after that remain constant (high). I need to calculate about 600 seconds until the solid body reaches a steady temperature state.

Is it possible to perform such a calculation using transient blade row model (with sector modeling approach) or it is necessary to perform a "true" transient calculation with full annulus of rows?

Opaque will become famous soon enough
What is the exact goal of the simulation?

Unless you are looking for thermal wave interactions affecting phase lag concerning other variables, you can get away with a single passage per row and run a transient.

How familiar are you with modeling rotor-stator interactions?

Dear Opaque, thank you for the answer.

The exact goal of the simulation is to simulate turbine heating from "cold" state during turbocharger start procedure. And a look for thermal wave interactions is not a goal of the simulation.

My experience is mainly connected with steady turbomachinery simulations. As I thought, to run a transient calculation, the full circumference of the turbomachine is required, except in cases where pitch-change methods such as PT, TT or FT are used. And again, as I thought, the solution with these methods converges to a "steady-periodic" state, but I need to simulate transient process with, for example, turbine rotational velocity change in time, which makes process not "steady-periodic".

But from your answer I see that I can get away with a single passage per row and just run a transient. This is a new information for me.
