Hello
Just wondering if anyone can help with the following. I am about to buy a new computer that will primarily be used for running Ansys CFX. Will Ansys work with Vista? Am I correct in saying that if you have 64-bit Vista then you also need 64-bit Ansys? Thanks in advance. S |

Ok. Thanks for that. I'm still unclear however as to whether I will be able to use Ansys with Vista? What version do you use with XP 64-bit?

Hi,
ANSYS and CFX is fully supported in Windows Vista, in both 32 and 64 bit modes. You need V11 service pack 1. Glenn Horrocks |

Is there any advantage running Vista 64bit (or XP 64bit) if ANSYS is 32bit?
Any comments are appreciated. |

Hi,
No advantage in putting ANSYS 32 bit on a 64 bit OS. But it is a simple matter of just installing the 64 bit version of ANSYS and you will be able to run bigger models that 64 bit allows. Glenn Horrocks |

Glenn
Thanks for that. Presumably, the 64 bit version of ANSYS is provided by service pack 1? Thanks again. |

No, it is a separate installation.

Hi,
I downloaded the Ansys 11 x64 from the web but I haven't installed it coz the package seems to be incomplete. It needs a file from the Ansys 11.0 x64\program files\ANSYS Inc\V110\AISOL\DesignSpace\DSPages\Language directory and i don't know what it is. Could u help me? |

I was thinking about installing Ansys/CFX on my 64 bit Vista machine I just purchased. My question is, if I create the .def files for a simulation in this 64 bit system, will I be able to run them on a 32 bit solver (I'm only asking because I have access to a cluster of 6 quad core cpus which is running linux and is set up to run simulations by transferring the def files and running them on the cluster). So really, the question is, are 64bit ansys .def files compatible with 32 bit ansys solvers?

Hi Sam, I work with Vista and Inventor 2009 and Ansys WB and Ansys CFX. CFX mesh does NOT work on vista 64bit no support either. the solver, pre and post runs normal on vista 64bit
