Hi there

I am trying to generate a wing/rotor within Design Modeler in CFX and I can input my naca aerofoils without a problem but when it comes to blending them together to form the wing and adding a twist I cannot seem to achieve this. Has anyone had any experience with this? Can anyone help? Step by step instructions would be most helpful as with any suggestions. Thanks for your time.

Jennifer

Hi,

Complicated surfacing such as this is not easily done on Design Modeller. I would use a more advanced surfacing tool such as a solid modelling package (ProE, Catia, Solidworks, UG etc) or rhino.

I've also had no success making 3Dwings in DM by importing aerofoil co-ordinate data so ended up using our CAD package - Solid Edge. So a step by step would be useful.

But be aware if you use solid edge, we always find that CFX-mesh fails by putting elements INSIDE the wind at the root leading edge when a line control is used along the leading edge and ANSYS have not been able to explain why. If we supress the line control it's okay but we use if to refine the element size here as stuff is happening to the flow; it's slowing down.

Hi siw,

Sounds like you have found a bug in Workbench V11. I would talk to support about testing it on V12 beta and if still present then report it as a bug. Then with any luck it can be fixed for the release version.
