Hi friends

i'm research student (at the begining stage)will involve in CFD technique to simulate the wind induced tall building response. Currently have zero knowledge in the CFD software, have intention to incorporate the FLUENT or CFX in my research. Can any friends here suggest the best way to start using CFX or FLUENT software. FLUENT in my lab is version 6.3.

I also started CFX some month ago. First I had to learn a meshing software I used ICEM cfd. I still have very basic knowledge, but after some hours of doing tutorials I could generate usable mesh and go to CFX.

In CFX I used the tutorials as well. It helped me a lot to understand what i can use CFX for, and what are the basic principles and "how to"s. I think there is no way to skip this learning process. There are some tutorials doing flow around objects, or similar setup. (eg. Tutorial 4, 5).

First try something very simple but similar to your set up. I would try to set up flow around a box. Use a coarse mesh, it calculates faster, (you will have to make it computed several times)and when you have your simple case working try to make it more comlex. When it is okay, try your real version.

When you will face problems you can not find in the tutorials, search this forum for a better understanding. Others may have had similar problems to yours.

I you still do not have the answer, ask. There are several Pros here, who will help you, if they see you have made your part, so do your efforts before. Also read this: http://www.cfd-online.com/Wiki/Ansys...ible_answer.3F

Read the forum reguraly, others question help a lot to understand the whole cfd.

And finally, if you find someone who asks something you know the answer to, answer it. It also helps you to understand better, and this is the idea of the whole community.

I would ask your supervisor this question. If your supervisor knows nothing about CFD, I would consider changing project or the supervisor!
