parallel processing for Monte Carlo radiation possible ?
 

Hi everybody,

Does CFX allow parallel processing for a Monte Carlo radiation model ? I'm not sure.

Perhaps I have to do a simulation of natural ventilation of a very large atrium (roughly 60 000 m3, 35m height) with strange, complex, without symetry shape and lots of glazing with solar radiation.

couldn't you try to do a parallel model run using monte carlo and perhaps the rest of the physics you intend to use but using a small mesh? ;)

Do you need the Monte Carlo method? Would Discrete transfer be enough? It is much faster computationally.

Yes, I need Monte Carlo method because the medium is air and I have directed radiation (sun) to model.
But can I use Discrete transfer ? I've never used it for simulations in air.

And, just in theory, can I use Monte carlo in parallel processing ? It seems to me I read somewhere that it is not possible but I don't refind the paper.

You might be able to do this with the Discrete Transfer model. Not sure if you can set a directional radiation BC you will need for the sun or whether that needs Monte Carlo. But definitely check the Discrete transfer model out as it is much faster than MC.

Not sure if MC works in parallel. Read the documentation.
