die-casting in cfx

Hi every one

I intend to simulate aluminium liquid die-casting
Is it possible in CFX??

If yes…..

1)Is this simulation transient or steady state?

2) what parameters are need for the domain?

3)how can define the aluminium liquid material in CFX whereas liquid phase convert to solid phase?

4)how can simulate the converting liquid phase to solid phase?

5)how can manage the aluminium liquid injection time so that the injection has continue while the distance between core & cavity be full.

Yes, it is possible - very tricky to get it right though, this is not a topic for beginners.

If you can't answer that question then don't even think about continuing modelling die casting.

There are many approaches. Some use a high viscosity to freeze the fluid, some have a moving front which has a sub-domain (or separate domain) behind it. Have a look in the literature for the various approaches.

try it with Flow3D, it might be able to do it easier.

There are plenty of other software packages which claim to be able to do this sort of stuff, I have no experience with any of them. Other packages from a quick google search include Thercast, ProCAST, CALCOSOFT, PAM-QuikCAST, MAGMAsoft, ConiferCast, Flow3D, CastCAE, Novacast, SIMTEC, CAPCAST, MAVIS, AFS Solidification System (3D).
