Heat transfer settings in ANSYS CFX Pre.

Can some one tell me the difference between specifying a heat flux from a wall and adding a heat source through a subdomain to the simulation.
I mean when it is required to deal with convective heat transfer should the approach be to define a wall boundary condition with heat flux (or) is it required to define a solid domain accordingly and then a sub domain with in it to add the heat energy. what is the difference indeed.

On the boundary the flux is applied at the wall boundary and for the sub domain it is applied in a volume inside the domain.

Simply choose the approach which most closely matches what is actually happening - is it volumetric heating or surface heating?
