The free surface flow over a bump tutorial simulation is the best tutorial on free surface flows.

Hi all, am new to cfd-online.
I also am trying to develop the cfd model of liquid slosh in a tank (shape not specific). I would like to do this in Ansys CFX. I just need the CFX part of the work & I am able to model the geometry & mesh it using moving-mesh technique which is I think the most suitable mesh form. I am pretty unsure of how to do the CFX part because no tutorial or data I got from internet speaks about slosh modeling.
Any cfd-specialist can help me??

Look in the CFX tutorials. The "Flow over a bump" one shows how to set up free surface flows.

Dear Haga,

Can you please help me how should I apply the moving mesh? What kind of equation should I specify for the moving mesh?

Regards

i am studying that now. anyways it has to be done using the VoF method for satisfactory results. i'll post here on how the mesh is made dynamic soon.

Hey, Hareesh, I have been working on fuel slosh simulation using CFX for my thesis. I am working on developing active damping mechanism for fuel slosh. I have been able to simulate fuel slosh without providing moving mesh. Volume fraction is the important factor for obtaining free surface. However, I cant figure a way of measuring the amplitude of fuel slosh in my simulation. Can any one suggest a way to obtain the amplitude of the sloshing in CFX.

Thanks

Yes, thanks, I did simulate lateral sloshing without moving mesh. Use isosurface to calculate amplitude. Use function calculator for finding max & min X & Y values to get slosh angle & amplitude

There's are some ansys 12 tutorial slides with a transitory case with tank sloshing somewhere... also, for the free surface it's common to assume that the isosurface where the volume fraction is 0.5 is the water/fluid surface.

hello, setting the isosurface with volume fraction depends on the liquid fill level required. I didn't see any slosh specific slide in ANSYS 12 tutorials, will check it again
