Importing 2-D mesh in CFX

After I create my 2-D mesh in ICEM, I save it in .msh format. But when I import it in CFX, the msh looks 3-D ??? It has about 1 or 2 element thickness. I need to know how does this work. What is the length of the 3rd dimension ?
Any kind of help/comment is greatly appreciated. |

CFX cannot handle 2D meshes, only 3D. So any 2D mesh it imports it extrudes one element thick to make it 3D. The thickness of this extrusion is in the options somehwere. Put a symmetry plane on the top and bottom surface and it will solve in 2D. But note CFX is a very inefficient 2D solver as it is solving the full 3D equations, it is not a "real" 2D solver.

Thanks Ghorocks !!!!! I had another question. What if I set my top and down boundary to be inlets with constant velocity. Will that work instead of using symmetry BC.
I am already using Symmetry BC for back and front side. |

I think you can introduce some errors if you don't use the symmetry BC when you ought to. Check the xmod.pdf or xref.pdf documentation files buried in the ANSYS installation directory for further details. The documentation is fairly well written so I doubt you will have a problem getting the clarification you require.
