CFX5 file reader

Hello,

my name is Thomas and that is my first post on CFD-Online :) At my workplace, I'm useing ANSYS CFX + IcemCFD.

So, at the moment I will write an simple mesh reader, that reads CFX5 meshes and calculate the minimal angle of the hexaeder mesh. Todo that I need a CFX5-File-Specification.

Where do I get the file format specification?

Regards, Thomas

It is proprietry, you cannot get it. You might be able to export the mesh as another format and read that.

But why bother? CFD-Post can already give you the minimal angle in the mesh, so why are you doing something which is already built-in?

Yes, that is true and icemcfd also report the angles. But I need a little bit more informations. The angle was a example.

I think .cfx is a very old file format. I do not mean .def or .res.
And e.g. OpenFOAM can also import CFX5.

OK. What format can I use without lost of informations? CFX-Pre must support the file format.

CFD-Post already pretty much all mesh metrics I can think are worth calculating. What do you need to calculate which it does not already do?
