Hi i'm new in the CFD simulation,
i'm looking for some advices: What is the best simulator i could use for wind simulations? and where can i get it ? how much it cost? is COMSOL is good or CFX is the best for it? are there any free softwares? Tnx a lot BR Arye |

Hello Arye
CFX or FLUENT are much more accurate and comprehensive than COSMOL but less user-friendly (you can make quick simulations in COSMOL but i would'nt count on the results). you can also try OpenFOAM which is free. Erez |

does the openFoam is something that requires to write a code ?
and ANSYS CFX is buiding a 3D simulation ? or i understand somthing wrong? and do you know if these programs allowing to calculate drag coeficient? Thanks again, Arye |

I don't have experience with openfoam, but as a linux program i guess that it requires coding...
In CFX you can do 2D/3D simulations and you can calculate drag coefficient fairly easy... |

Hi,
With OpenFOAM you can get the same results as CFX or Fluent, but it's harder to use. You donīt need any coding to begin with, the only thing is to set the case and boundary conditions through text files (no GUI). You have a graphical interface in OpenFOAM only for visualizing results. Since it's free you should try it. Best regards, lindner |

The only way to know what software is best for you is to arrange a trial of each of them and give it a go.
