How to use non-equilibrium thermal model for porous medium in Ansys CFX 13.0?
 

Hi,

Ansys CFX 13.0 manual states that version 13.0 of CFX has non-equilibrium thermal model for porous medium as opposed to equilibrium thermal model for porous medium in CFX 12.1.
However, the GUI interface for porous medium domain in CFX/13.0 appears to same as in 12.0. I think I am missing something.

So:
a) does the version 13.0 use non-equilibrium model for porous medium by default?
b) If so, then the model will require porous fluid- porous solid heat transfer coefficient. If I understand correctly, this has to be a user input. Where does one specify that?
c) Can one select between equilibrium/ non-equilibrium model for porous medium in CFX/13.1?

I somehow could not find info on this in CFX-Pre manual for Ansys 13.0.

The non-equilibrium model might not be in CFX-Pre yet. To have a look at the full available options have a look in the CFX RULES file (I think it is in the /etc/directory). That lists the full available CCL.

Otherwise give CFX support a call.

I contacted the Ansys support and found the solution in the tutorial on catalytic converter for Ansys 13.0. In Ansys 13.0, there is an additional solid definition field in porous domain settings. When the user specifies a solid definition, then the fields for fluid-solid area density and heat transfer coefficient become visible and the non-equilibrium thermal model is used :)
