Can we do a 2d simulation in Converge CFD ?

Default Can we do a 2d simulation in Converge CFD ?

I am a bit doubtful on this part as I think it needs .stl format for it's boundaries. Without the triangles the boundaries cannot be defined.

Any help would be appreciated.

Sure you can, have a look at the example cases.
There is a 2D flow case. (Examples 2.4->General->Supersonic_channel)

Top and bottom boundary are of TWO_D type then.

In this also we have side walls with thickness. I was thinking of developing a 2d axisymmetric case for combustion.

I tried everything ..but I don't think it avails the 2D model concept in Converge CFD

It is possibile to do 2d sims in Converge, you have to create a 2d section and extrude it in the normal direction, then use TWO_D boundary conditions where needed. Look at the example as MFGT suggested

A 2D axisymmetric case would be a very thin sector, right?
Its probalby not a good idea, but you could make a sector of 1°C or something like that. However, the meaningfulness depends on your kind of combustion system.

Just to clarify, 2D planar simulations, where a Cartesian coordinate system is used, and spatial derivatives are all zero in one of the 3 Cartesian directions are all zero, are possible in CONVERGE by use of the TWO_D boundary type, as pointed out by MFGT and Blanco.

In CONVERGE 2.4, TWO_D is only available for non-moving, non-spray cases. Please see CONVERGE 2.4 Manual for more details.

To see an example case, in CONVERGE Studio 2.4, File > Load Example Case > General > Supersonic_channel. The surface geometry you see is indeed a volume, but all vertices lie in the lower_z or upper_z plane. The conversion from this 3D surface to 2D is done inside the solver at runtime. Please note the validity of the 2D assumption should be verified before running 2D simulations.

For 2D axisymmtric simulations, use of a wedge is possible as noted above. However, one must be careful that the domain and solution are 2D axisymmetric. An axisymmetric domain does not always mean the flow solution is axisymmetric, especially due to flow instabilities inherent in Navier-Stokes. (How to establish a 2d axisymmetric case?)

Thanks Dan. My simulation has moving boundary so I suppose only 3d is possible.
