Hi all,

I noticed there were more than one species and their mass fractions defined in the injector edit dialog box. Is this the same for defining fuel blends like mixture of diesel and ethanol?

If not, are there other ways to do that and how?

Thanks!

You can setup multi component fuel blends in CONVERGE.
We have a few examples of how to do this.

When you setup multiple species in the injector settings, the liquid species are injected into the domain. You also define in the spray settings how these species evaporate.

I did try as you mentioned.
1. Added C2H5OH in Parcel Simulation & Species
2. Added C2H5OH in the injected parcel species and mass fraction
3. Evaporation Source changed from 0 to 2 - source all base parcel species

But the simulation shows this error:

JOB ABORT invoked by rank 0: ERROR: error in spray.in, evaporation is on but parcel species for DIESEL2 does not exist as a gas species
---------

1.Also, will the Fuel Species in Combustion Modelling (General) remain as C7H16 even in case of Multi Component?

Thanks!

It looks like your liquid is DIESEL2, which does not exist as a gas species. If you want to use DIESEL2 as the liquid species, you should evaporate it to a species that exists in the gas phase.

Take a look at the Diesel Sector example case in Studio. In that case we inject DIESEL2 as a liquid, and evaporate it as C7H16 to the gas phase with evap_source_flag = 0.

Since you are using a blended fuel of Diesel and Ethanol, I would suggest a multicomponent setup (please look at the Diesel Sector Multicomponent example).
In this case you will set up multiple fuels as liquids, set evap_source_flag = 2, and list each fuel with the correct species fraction.

It may be you only need to switch DIESEL2 to C7H16 (where heptane is the liquid and gas species representing Diesel2).

If you still want to use Diesel2 and not heptane, you can also rename all "C7H16" or "nC7H16" within mech.dat and therm.dat to "Diesel2". Then you can evaporate from liquid to gas species since the names are consistent, while acutally using heptane data for gas phase.

Hey all,

The issue was resolved once i changed from DIESEL2 to C7H16 & added CH5OH in gas species.

Thanks for helping out.
