Hi all. I am trying to simulate Karanja (Pongamia pinnata) biodiesel fuelled diesel engine. how to define the fuel in parcel as it is a mixture of several components?

Kindly help.

Hi,

You could specify the mass fraction of different components when defining the parcel species. You could refer to the preloaded example case in CONVERGE Studio: File->Load_example_case->Internal_Combustion_Engines->Heavy_Duty_Diesel->Engine_Sector_Diesel_Multicomponent.

Alternately you can also create a composite species for which an example can be found here: File->Load_example_case->Internal_Combustion_Engines->Heavy_Duty_Diesel->Engine_Sector_Diesel_Composite

Thanks,

Actually, it is not that easy. first you have to download mech.dat and therm.dat for the biodiesel you are using from Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. and that biodiesel may/may not be close approximation for ur biodiesel depending upon FAME compound of ur Karanja. After that, while defining the liquid species, u need to provide some properties at different temperatures and interpolate it there itself in the CONVERGE. once you got that do the regular steps as of diesel. also for mole fractions of composites of biodiesel that has to be define in species tab of regions & initialisation, use surrogate blender tool (blend.out file). Also for close approximation you can provide LHV of ur experiment in the case setup of Gas simulation. Thats All Good Luck
