Rotary Engine Simulation - Simulation Crash when opening Intake Port

Hi All,

I am trying to do a simulation of a rotary engine in Converge 3. I have followed the example case very closely. Basically, the only thing I am changing is the geometry and the boundary conditions. I am applying the boundary conditions in the port entries and these are pressure and temperature traces coming from 1D Analysis. Of course, I changed the base mesh and embeddings to suit the new geometry size.

The simulation runs fine for 140 degrees until one of the rotor vertices reaches the edge of the intake port. This point would be the point where the intake port would be opening and flow would start entering in a new chamber.

I had a similar problem when going through the spark plug but I have been able to solve it with cyclic embedding. However, refining the mesh is not working now.

The log does not give any clue on what to tackle, it is just a sudden crash.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to solve this?

I would really appreciate your help with this, as I have been struggling with the same issue for quite a lot of time now.

Best regards.

I expect it is a problem with the sealing setup. By changing the geometry, the alignment and spacing of verts at the seals could be off.
Please email support for help on this case. One of our application engineers can check over the setup and help resolve the problem.
