Defining interval volumes

Hi Forum

I'm trying to simulate porous media using OpenFoam. The porous media is defined by a cellZone in OpenFoam which is a part of the internal mesh. I have without issues managed to solve the problem using the Salome mesher, where internally meshed volumes are automatically defined as cellZones when the mesh is exported.

My issue is that when I am using internal volumes in enGrid and exporting the mesh, the information about the internal cells is lost if the mesh is exported in for example gmsh format.

Does anyone know if there is a method where I can store this information ? Or is it possible to export the mesh with other methods where the internal mesh is stored as cellZone ?

The way it is set up can be seen here: http://imgur.com/c0WiOwl . It is the volume called porosity I want to define as a cellZone.

Hello Jógvan,

with the current version of enGrid this is not possible. There has, however, been some preparation to include this kind of functionality. At the moment I am trying a drastically different approach to volume meshing by using TetGen instead of Netgen. Until I have a clear idea on which of the two tet meshers will be used in the future, we will not implement any new features in the current source tree.

It will probably take a couple of weeks before the TetGen branch is stable enough to be tested thoroughly, but first tests suggest that it will be significantly faster and more robust. The feature that you are seeking will be one of the first things to be implemented as soon as it is clear which way enGrid will move.

Sorry that I don't have any immediate solution for your problem!

Best regards,
Oliver

Hi Oliver

Thanks for the reply. This means that for now I have to use snappyHexMesh, which off course also is a good alternative. Always great to hear that new features are being developed ! :)
