import surface and interpolate field on it

Hello all,

I am new to Ensight and I am trying to do the following :

- import a surface defined by XYZ coordinates (not plane)
- have Ensight interpolate the field of a variable (i.e., velocity norm) on this surface
- plot the contour on it

Any ideas? Is it only possible? If not, could you recommand me another visualization soft?

Thanks a lot.

Greetings,

Youri

import surface and interpolate field on it

Youri,

- import a surface defined by XYZ coordinates (not plane)
Sure. File -- > Open Browser. There are a lot of various formats to read this type of data. If the data is purely point data (like PIV), then we have macros to convert that type of data into EnSight. The EnSight Case format is also open, documented, and free to use too.

- have Ensight interpolate the field of a variable (i.e., velocity norm) on this surface
If you have two cases (perhaps an original dataset containing the variable, and this "new" imported surface), then you can use the "CaseMap" function in EnSight to interpolate the variable onto this newly imported surface.

- plot the contour on it
Just drag/drop the variable from the list onto the part. That is it.
