Post-Processing-Export Star CCM+ to Ensight

Hi,

I have performed CFD Simulations using Star CCM+ and now I would like to use ENSIGHT for my post-processing. Could anyone guide me on how to go about this? Also, where can I find more information on what files and format need to exported to achieve post-processing in ENSIGHT. Particularly I am interested in calculation Tumble and Siwrl for my steady state intake port simulation.

Thank you in advance.
Best Regards

You will need to export data from STAR-CCM+ to the EnSight Case format. You can do this from within the STAR-CCM+ GUI, for Exporting Data. For transients, you will to ensure that you turn on the export during the solution option.

I'd suggest visiting EnSight's website and inspecting the Resource Page for questions. You can also inspect our FAQ page for STAR-CCM+ related items (https://support.ceisoftware.com/hc/e...&commit=Search)

We also have quite a few videos on vimeo. Here is a collection related to STAR-CCM+/STAR-CD, with one specifically for getting data to EnSight from STAR-CCM+ https://vimeo.com/album/3663050

If you have specific questions, please feel to reach out to the support desk at support@ensight.com to request specific help.

Hi Kevin,

Thank you for replying. I have performed Steady-state simulations and I exported the file to EnSight gold case format with my regions, derived parts and field functions. Next, on importing the file to EnSight I get an error as seen in the following screenshot. The Ensight version is 10.14 Linux. Could you please help me with this error?

Thanks

If you experience trouble reading in EnSight format files, the first thing to check is the format. The installation of EnSight comes with a utility called "ens_checkerXXX" where XXX is the integer version (XXX == 102 for current release, 101 for last release, etc). So, if you are running EnSight 10.2, then you should be able to type 'ens_checker102' in your directory in which the .case/.encas files live, and this utility will check and report back any format errors with the file. Run this first. The output should be fairly sensible, and you can then appreciate what is wrong in the files.

Hi Kevin,

I have successfully managed to import the file to EnSight, thank you. But I am facing a problem obtaining the tumble number. As I am performing Steady state simulation, I get an Error of Analysis_Time when I run the python script(downloaded from EnSight) for calculating tumble. If we see the python code it contains the loop where it calls for Analysis_Time variable and others like step_start and step_end. So since my case has time=0, how can I obtain the tumble and swirl. I have attached a screenshot of the error.

I would like to obtain these values at a particular value. So I created a new variable RPM and defined it a constant value say X, and in the script, I replaced analysis_time with RPM. So now on running the script, it runs without error, and I obtain the spatial mean tumble velocity. But I noticed the value remains same even on changing the RPM value. So I guess this implies that the script is not having an effect of RPM.
So could you please me, on how can I get Tumble Ratio for a steady state case?

Thank you.

I'd refer you to this location for a more basic a simple form of script for calculating swirl (and tumble). These are the basics, and are at the core of the script that you are using.
