Hello!

I am currently running simulations on FineMarine for a planing monohull. The mesh is quite refined but my AGR is
"coarse" and restricted to a smaller box around the craft rather than the whole domain.
I just wanted to ask if anyone has done a similar simulation and what their experience of the time
required was? I am running mine on an 8 core machine and it is taking about 14 hours to do 200 time steps.
Please let me know if you've ever done something similar and if I should be expecting more or less time for this.

Thanks so much

Hello Alex,

The computation time will depend on the hardware, but to have reasonable computation times you should have between 100 000 and 500 000 cells per core. In your case, that means a maximum of 4 million cells. Ideally, the initial mesh should be smaller than that because AGR will add new cells.

What can you do in practice?

- Make sure hyperthreading is deactivated in the machine.
- Reduce the mesh size: choose the "Medium" or "Coarse" mesh option in the C-Wizard
- In HEXPRESS, deactivate viscous layer insertion in surfaces that will remain dry.

Best regards,
Anna
