Flow Simulation output control
 

I´m having problems with disk space after running the simulation. I'm workin on an air exaust system and i want to know if its possible to chose wich data to save (output). I just wanted to save information abaut the cells velocity and pressure. If not, how can i create points and then just save the output on those points?

Hi,
there is no way to selects what part of the results are to keep during the calculations. But if you have a lot of other older projects, you can delete all files in the projects folders which are numbered except the *.fld file where * is the project folder number. Other files are not really necessary for post processing as most of them are temporary files and will be created again as soon as you start post processing in order to create the plots faster the next time. Some of the data are used during solving or meshing so also not necessary after the calcultion is done. This can create a lot of waste on your hard drive over the time if it is not cleaned out.
Also only keep the *.fld files if you are still looking into the projects and results. If the model is put aside and you don't need it anymore you can always re-calculate from the projects you defined and therefore delete the *.fld files. The whole project definition is saved inside the CAD files.

If you have a transient calculation you will see a lot of r_00000****.fld files there the **** stands for the iteration number it was saved. These results are necessary only for post processing if you want to look at the results of single time steps during the calculation or animate the plot over time.

So either your hard drive is full of old project files or you really should consider bying a bigger hard drive as memory is very cheap.
Usually a 500GB hard drive should be enoug besides other programs that are installed as usually the models are put into PLM after people are done with them or on some backup drive if there is no PLM system.

Hi Boris,
I am running a transient calculation and i will have to use the results on a presentation, so having the animation is always nice. I was aware of the savings done during the calculation and what the files were for (i chose the output step by time).

I ended up using a 2tb external disk to solve the problem :P.

Wow, 2 TB?
That's quite a large amount. How many cells do you have and how often du you write results compared to the time step you chose?

I hope not to fill the disk. I have around 290k fluid cells and 300k partial ones. The problem is that i have to save every 0.001s for 2 to 4s.

Ok, now it makes sense. Well at the moment I guess you only can buy additional hard disk space. Sorry.
