Hello good people,
I have a cad file from inventor and need to do simplify the geometry. I figured that the best way to get rid of unnecessary holes is to use lid tool so i simplified fillets etc. in inventor and exported the file to a .step and opened it with floefd. I used a lid tool which worked really nice but when I generated mesh i saw that it is resolved around each lid. Lid is supposed to be the same material as a body so I think it is a terrible waste of computational resources to do that. Am i doing something wrong, is there any way to avoid this issue? Kind regards, Zdunol |

you mean you want to close the holes because the holes need no to be calculated?
if that, you should simplify the features just in the CAD software with such as emove surface order. |

That's correct, it just requires a hell lot of more work than using lid tool :< I guess the tool's purpose is to easily close the geometry to be able to run internal simulation, it would be cool if the lids could merge into a material though.

Hi zdunol,
the create lid tool is in fact designed to create inlet or outlet lids, it can apply to a surface with multiple holes to close them all at once but it will create then for each hole one part. I cannot tell what your model looked like or what holes you wanted to close. So I cannot tell if there is better way of doing it but as Jason already mentioned the feature suppressing method. Usually you don't have do defeature all the chamfers or fillets and screws. If you don't set a fine small feature refinement for the overall model then they will not be refined. This is usually the problem, the automatic settings often cause such a refinement along edges etc. deactivate it and manually change it. I hope this helps, Boris |
