Heat generation rate in SolidWorks Flow Simulation |

Suppose if bulb filament is being supplied with 10W, out of which 3W is used to light the bulb and remaining 7W is dissipated as heat, then is it 7W of "Heat Generation Rate" to be applied in SolidWorks Flow Simulation?
How is the heat generation/dissipation rate calculated from total wattage supplied? |

Hi SMP,
sorry for the late reply, I haven't been able to look after the questions for some time. If we are talking about a regular incandescent bulb, then 3W out of 10W would be 30% efficiency and that is not realistic for a bulb. We are talking more about 7% efficiency for bulbs. So correct would be a 93% for the heat generation rate. The radiation portion and the convection and conduction portions are of course then depending on the properties of the simulation such as radiation properties of the surface, air flow that cools the filament and the conduction into the socket. There will be a balance between all these heat transfer methods that FloEFD iterated to depending on these properties. After all CFD is an iterative approach. You can measure the portions via the goals on the components to see how much is radiation, convection and conduction. I hope this helps. |
