Hello,

I have imported the SAT file into FloTHERM.Bridge (see attached). This is a cuboid having a round hole within it. I need to convert this construction into SmartPart, but I also want the round geometry of the hole to be retained in the resulting SmartPart.

First I have attempted to use the Decompose command. In its dialog box I moved the slider to the far right position towards Complex and checked Prisms, Cylinders and Sloping Blocks. As a result, my construction has been decomposed on 17 cuboids and 16 prisms, so I have lost the round geometry of my hole.

Then I have attempted to use the Single Object command. In its dialog box I have selected the Bounding Cylinder, but all my construction has been replaced with the cylinder.

Then I have attempted to use the Dissect Body command. In its dialog box I have manipulated with Arc/Chord Ratio field: 1.5 results to 4 faces of my hole, 1.0 results to 24 faces of my hole. So I have also failed to retain the round geometry of my hole.

Would anybody give me advice how to retain the round geometry in a hole within cuboid, when converting it into SmartPart?

hello,

- it's IMPOSIBLE to retain the hole in your cuboid in flotherm (that's the way flotherm works :P).
- what you could do is to "voxalize" your part with such a small grid that it captures as good as possible the hole.

For example: Tools-> Voxelize -> Define mesh by "Maximum size".
Maximum size of cells in X,Y,Z = 0.2mm; Minimum Cell size = 0.2mm. and you get what it's in the attachment.

Values bigger than 0.2 lead to more coarse cuboids for the circle, values smaller to finer approximation and more grid cells )). You should play with these values by yourself.

Best regards, Gabriel

Thank you very much, Gabriel. As you see I am a new to floTHERM, hence I have asked such question. Maybe, you will notice my question about cylindrical geometry?

Regards,
Oleg
