Flotherm : Source direction for Joule heating
 
Dear all,

we are about to design joule heating model.

But I don't know why its result changes with source direction.

When source faces (Current in, voltage out) are oppositely oriented, soving is work well but not certain result.

However, when sourece face is located for same direction, solving does not work with error message(E/9106 Potential Source is not electrically connected to other Potential Sources).

Does anyone know this problem to resolve ? or Can we get some advice & guide for joule heating?

ok, so for a good joule heating simulation you must have in the model:
- one "potential source" (Source Type = "Potential"; Activate = "checked" Option = "Fixed Value" and write down the voltage)
- and one "potential source" (Source Type = "Potential"; Activate = "checked" Option = "Total Source" and write down the current "+" sign if it enters the part or "-" if it leaves the part)

That's pretty much all. I'm not sure I understand what doesn't work for you.

P.S.: 1. joule heating works also with 2 voltage conditions but it's not recommended.
2. in the attachment you can find a model with 4 electrical conditions (2 voltage and 2 current) so you can experiment a bit ;)

the topic is solved.
- root cause of erroneous results was found to be Joule Heating in part that had Silicon (Pure) material attached - high electrical resistivity.
