FloEFD Standalone --> FloEFD NX Embedded
 
Hi everybody,

at the moment I am thinking to switch from FloEFD standalone to FloEFD NX Embedded, because majority of files is NX native.


The only thing I am not happy with NX embedded solution is that I can not import/view simulation settings and results from previous projects made with FloEFD standalone. Only thing I can do is open the solidwork Assembly.


Does anyone know if previous projects can be imported including settings & results?

Hi Dominik,

The issue is that the FLOEFD projects are stored inside the CAD assembly or part file that is the main file you open. When opening the SW files in NX, it will basically import the CAD model into NX, but NX itself has no clue about FLOEFD so there will be no FLOEFD information also imported.

You can open your projects in the Standalone version and use the "create template" option which will copy all the project definitions into a template file. It makes sense to define the template folder the same for both integrations in the FLOEFD options. Then both tools write and read from the same folder. So if you save the template in the Standalone version, you can then open the model in NX and use "New" and select the template from the list.
As file name and surface or body names will change when importing a CAD model into NX, the BCs will lose their reference as they cannot find the names they had in the Standalone version. So you will need to reassign them.
As for the results, in principle, you can load the files, but the reference between the plots and the results is lost. So when you use a previously created surface plot or create a new one, it references to NX geometry but when running the simulation there will be temporary files created for mesh and geometry information which are in some way used as references for the associations as well. So surface plots and other component related plots might not work as the surface or component cannot be found in the result information. Cut plots might work as they define a place in space to display results.

I have never tried to start a simulation and then stop it and copy the old results into that folder (*.cpt and *.fld) files so the geometry relation files are there from NX but the results from the other integration. It might work, but no guarantee.
