Fluid stream maximum height simulation

1 Attachment(s)
Hello,
I have a water tank with an inlet and an outlet. The flow rate of the inlet and the outlet is the same so that a certain level of fluid is maintained in the tank.
I am trying to simulate the maximum height of the inlet's stream when the inlet tube is directed to the top of the tank.
As for now, I am only able to view the fluid's surface normal velocity because i am having a problem viewing the fluid's behavior beyond the fluid's domain.

I am using FloEFD 15.
Any tips will be much appreciated.

Thank you,
Alex.

I am not sure I understand what your actual problem is. You explained what you are trying to do but for what do you need help.

I am not understanding the issue you are describing for viewing the fluid beyond the fluid's domain.
The software is only calculating what happens inside the computational domain.
You can place a Cut Plot with the same parameter cutting vertically through the model to see the velocity distribution in that plane.
If you want to see where the vertical velocity is zero and therefore the flow reaches its maximum height, then you can also use that as a condition and simply show the isosurface with zero velocity. But you should define the crop region for the plot as there will be a large surface where the velocity is zero, such as at the walls etc. But you should see some vertical kind of jet coming up with some zero velocities at areas where the up flow and down flow met and become zero.

I hope this helps,
Boris

Hello Boris and thank you for your answer.
I am trying to simulate the waves on the surface that is exposed to the environmental pressure.
I have tried expanding the computational so it would include the space above the pressure opening but i still can't get resualts for this extra space.

When you say pressure opening, do you mean a pressure boundary condition?
This is like an outlet and there will be nothing behind that.

Have you tried the Free Surface functionality?
It is a transient solution and will need some finer mesh to resolve the fluid surface better. So depending on where the surface level is and how high the wave or bulge in from the jet is, this region might need some finer mesh.
You can specify the liquid surface level in the general settings under the initial conditions but you need gravity activated of course.
Then the liquid level is defined and the flow will cause the surface to create waves.

Regards,
Boris

Thank you for your help. Unfortunately, the free surface option is not available in the 15 version.

Yes, it was introduced in V17.

Boris
