Good day i have a quick question.
i was Given a server with duel 6 core Xeon processors and 32gigs of ram.
after i installed flow3d i noticed that it was only using one of the processors.
i'm just running flow3d 11.0.4.5.
if its possible to use both processors on one computer that would be great for any advise if it will work or not.

Cheers,
Ian Dunlop

So after running some simulations the solver says its using all 24 processors but when i do a resource check on the server it only using one processor so only 6 cores ie 12 processors.

any ideas thanks guys

Please provide snapshots of the setting where you have set 24 cores and snapshot of resource manager.

Thanks. Please post the entire snapshot of the first image where I can see the processes that are running.

Your computer specification is "Duel core with 6 processors", which means you only have 2*6=12 physical cores. Rest of the cores that you see on resource manager are hyper-threads originating from the system architecture itself.

Therefore, you should ideally be using 12 cores only.
Now, FLOW-3D detects 24 cores because hyper-threading is on, on your system.

You can either be specific and use only 12 cores on FLOW-3D, or you can de-activate hyperthreading following online resources based on your operating system such as http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2422874,00.asp

I wont bother because at least 12 cores are getting used anyways, so there is still 100% utilization of computational power.
