Maximum scour hole in Flow
I know this topic has been deliberated several times, but I cant seem to find a real solution. What are the most sensitive or critical parameters in attaining maximum scour hole in Flow-3D? I have tried several times to simulate scour (changing shield parameters, drag coefficient, boundary conditions etc, but I cant seem to get it right. I have a prepin file, any one with help, I can forward my simulationAny advise would be appreciated. I would be trying to use OpenFoam but I think time is against me to learn it now. If there are any alternatives to Flow-3D, kindly inbox me suggestions.

hi samkelet
I'd been working on a scouring problem during the past year. I'ad find that must important parameter in scouring problem is Maximum Turbulence Mixing Length in turbulence options beside the sediment parameters, meshing, BCs, etc. on default setting it's computed dynamically but as the documentation of flow-3d it's better to be imported by user as a constant number. read the flow-3d documentation for finding best amount for this patameter in your problem. Finally you must be aware that flow-3d uses empirical relationships to calculate scouring which computational error seems to be acceptable to about 20%. :) |
Thanks a lot brother, I will look into that and give you feedback. I have been using the dynamical means all along

Flow 3D assistance
Hello samkelet,
I am new and trying to model bridge pier scouring around octagonal pier shape but facing a lot of difficulty. It would be a great favor if you share a tutorial or any other file which can explain that how to draw pier geometry, meshing and other setting of important parameters for it, please. |

Hello Nisar ul haq,
Not yet I still need assistance in Flow 3D. |
