Hello,

I would like to create a mesh for a large dam in Flow 3D. Therefore, I would like to split the dam into parts and run them block by block. I mean the downstream of the first block will be the upstream of the second one. At the end both will be like runned together. Can I do this in Flow 3D and how?

Yes, you can use multiple blocks. At the interface of the two-block information will be transferred automatically. People typically want to do this when they want to use different mesh sizes.

Hi thunde47, thank you for your respond!

Do I need to add restart simulation or copy the simulation after running first block? Also, should I use continuative or grid overlay? How can I manage boundaries between blocks?

You can use nested (overlay) blocks or multiple blocks next to each other. No need to worry about the inter-block boundary conditions. The code takes care of data transfer between the blocks through special interblock boundary conditions. You can run the simulation in one go, no need to restart.

Accually, I am new in Flow3D and I did not know how to ask it. However, I know now that what I am searching for is Immersed body condition and there are some ghost cells between blocks which transfer data and help to run blocks seperately. Do you know how to do it?

Yes, you can activate the Immersed Boundary Method (IBM) in FLOW-3D.

Go to Numerics. Go to momentum-advection column. Activate the immersed boundary option.

Thank you for your answer but there is no IBM under Numerics Tab.
