Prefilled cavity

Hi all,

I'm trying to calculate a 'solidification only' simulation. The cavity should allready be filled completely with melt right from the start. How can I model that? In the manual and forum I'm only reading of restarts for solidification after a filling simulation. But I don't want to calculate a complete filling only to start the solidification. There must be a way, mustn't it?

Regards,
Johannes

use confined flow option. (model setup > General > no sharp interface). then all open regions inside the cavity will be filled with fluid #1 from the beginning.

Great! Thank you for your reply!

Maybe my joy was a little bit precipitated. With 'no sharp interphase' set I'm not able to activate the rapid shrikage model anymore. Is it possible to prefill the cavity and still calculate shrinkage?

okay. if all cells outside of the cavity is occupied by the solid, you can just initialize the fluid with a big fluid height value or a fluid region taking over all cells.

Or define the initial metal volume in the mold; or the free surface location (ie fluid height)
