Stepped Spillway
Hi
I want to model a stepped spillway in FLOW-3D. Has any one done this before? or does any one have a thesis about this? |
It was done at the Hydrology Institute in St Petersburg, Russia, http://www.eng.rushydro.ru/, and presented at a seminar last June. Don't have a reference for the materials themselves, sorry
|
Hi there. I did that. What do you want to know? I am going to make another simulation in couple days.
BTW. Mike I believe I left that materials somewhere in Internet. I could look through where they are or leave them again. Regards, Armen. |
Hi
I was wondering if you could possibly send me the "STL" files and report (containing boundary conditions,...) |
Hi there. Sorry I can't That's copyrighted spillway and it is not published yet. I just can send you my preliminary simulation. The spillway has simple steps 5x5m. Boundary were very simple, just use water heights at right and left BC.

hi
i recently saw your messege, i like to know if you could model a stepped spillway in flow 3d and if yes i would be grateful if you could direct me in this regard. thanks |
Dear fth.
I used spillway with 5x5m steps. There is about 40 steps. so if you need just simulate spillway you will need about 5 cells per step but if you need more information (k and у parameters etc.) you will need about 15 ceels per step. For example I calculated that spillway about 20 days with 5 cells per step on Core 2 Duo. The same spillway with 15 cells is simulating about 30 days on Core-i7 (it's about 4-5 times faster) and it's quite far from the end. :-( Many things depends on you computer. About BC I wrote above. Stepped Spillway
Hi there
As I read Ghirghidov's message, I think that a stepped spillway with the 5m height of the steps, is not a real case! The maximum height of steps that has been constraucted is 1.2m. I have modeled a stepped spillway which the height of the steps is 1.2 m, the slope fo the spillway is 1.2V:1.0H and the height of the spillway is 82.0m, both physical and numerical. The numerical modelling was done by FLOW-3D. After all the numerical results agree very well with the physical modelling results. |
Dear Mohammad Sarfaraz.
I'm sorry I was not right. there are steps 1.5x1.5 etc. Actually that spillway contains steps with different configurations - several 0.5x0.5 one about 5 (or 6) and others 1.5x1.5. Regards, Ghirghidov. |

would you please send me your perpin file to khow how i set the condtions? i want to khow what the mistake is that the simulation doesn't do well (the water jumpe over the steps actually in my simulations) thanks A. Dolatshah |
Dear Azam Dolatshah,
send you to where? Regards. |

I have found this article useful, modeling stepped spillway with FLOW-3D.
