How many particles can be placed in each mesh cell in each time step?

Dear all,

I have several quick questions.

How many particles can be placed in each mesh cell in each time step?

How many particles can be placed in each mesh cell in total?

Thanks!

Yang

Dear Yang,

There is no limit on the number of particles in any given mesh cell other than the limit on the total number of particles in the mesh. This limit is defined by the input parameter NPMAX which defaults to 10,000.

Dear MuxaB,

I generated a mesh with 37000000 cells. when I run the case, one error message comes out,

particle error
************
number of particles exceeds maximun (set by npmax)- 10001
at source = 1- no more source particles can be generated
************
clearly, in my case the number of particles exceeds maximun (npmax).

But, I have no idea about npmax. could you tell me know how to set the npmax..THX

best wishes

Liping

Liping,

NPMAX is an input parameter that defines the limit for the total number of particles in a simulation. It defaults to 10,000 but you can make it bigger.

Look it up in the Manual.

Michael
