Hello experts,

I tried to model a centrifugal casting problem in Flow-3D. In the experiment, the liquid dropped into the bucket-shape mould and rotated with the mould until they physically contacted. As the help file stated, the non-inertial reference frame module was activated and the angular velocity was setup for the model.I used a pressure boundary on the top and the liquid dropped down into the mould under the gravity which was set in the non-inertial reference frame module as well.

The problem is when the liquid was dropping down, it kept twisting before it contacted the mould bottom. I think it is because the mesh rotated with the mould coordinate in this module. How can I avoid the liquid twist? using other method to model centrifugal casting?

Thanks a lot!

Yang

Hi i my not expert in casting area, may be you should try GMO option.

Not GMO.
try non inertial reference frame with counter rotating flow component at inlet boundary options.

The counter-rotating option for the incoming fluid sets the incoming fluid velocity to the opposite of the mesh rotation, assuming that the incoming fluid is NOT rotating with the mold. This is the default setting.

If the fluid is rotating with the mold, then you need to turn this option off. I think this is done in the non-inertial reference frame model dialog in Physics.
