Differences between "FLOW-3D" and "FLOW-3D Cast"?
Recently I found some introductions of FLOW Science product, FLOW-3D Cast. In their website, FLOW-3D Cast is described as a special version of FLOW-3D, which designed specially for casting process simulation. But I feel the features of FLOW-3D Cast displayed in the website can also be achieved in FLOW-3D. So, what's the main difference of FLOW-3D and FLOW-3D Cast? Does FLOW-3D Cast get rid of some unnecessary functions of FLOW-3D to make it more suitable for casting process simulation?
FLOW-3D Cast uses the same core solver routines as FLOW-3D. It has a radically different interface that includes pre-made filters, direct estimation of part volume, mass/weight of solidified product, etc. The GUI doesn't look even remotely like the FLOW-3D GUI, and yes, a number of processes have been eliminated (it does not yet include the core-gas model, for example). There are different versions for different industries: HPDC, foundry, or the full package which allows all parameters. It's aimed at casting users who find FLOW-3D too complex and non-intuitive to use. But yes, if you're comfortable with FLOW-3D, you can do everything with it that you can with FLOW-3D Cast, and more.
