Solidification

Hi....
I am working on solidification in continuous casting process.
I have got the proper contours of temperature and liquid fraction, but the problem is coming on getting the graph between the solid shell thickness vs distance from meniscus(similar graph is attached).
Solid shell thickness means liquid fraction less than 0.3.

Pls help me, i am not able to get it from a long time....

Thanks in advance.:confused::(:confused:

@ah_j
hi, i m using ansys-fluent for simulation but for modelling and meshing i m using gambit.

thank you for reply my friend,,, i am using icem cfd but i have problem with interfaces between two domains ( air and solid) and my project scope to find thickness of metal strip after solidification and find the process parameters on that thickness >>> and also thermal analysis of process >>> so how can i do that i mean which software have ability to do all that >>>> thanks in advance .... my greetings

dear ah_j
I dont have much knowledge of icem but as much i know, you can solve your problem on icem as well as on fluent. so if u are using icem then continue with that only and also have search on the forum you will definitely get some relevant information.

Dear ambrish4u, i am also working on solidification in continuous casting process. My model is 3D, but hard to converge. So i want to know how you define your boundary and improve the convergence. Many thanks.

I don't get your problem. I have done similar graphs (the one you attached) to verify the FLUENT solidification model works. Just take the top point as meniscus (assuming thats the star your domain or start of steel phase) as 0 point and change the X-axis values accordingly. Take the contour curve of 0.3 liquid fraction and use that as Y-axis values (shell thickness).

hello all,

i am doing solidification analysis of Sand casting mold box along with casting (complete assembly). my model is 3D and i have given all the boundary and cell zone conditions, but i am not getting the proper simulation.. my Temperature v/s time graph is exact straight line....

and i also dont know how to add energy source term in cell zone condition..

plz help me on this..

thank you

solidification in steady state

HI all,

I am currently working in continous casting problem at steady state using fluent software. I am not able to converge the solution. My model also includes pull velocity. It seems that many people have got the solution. Can you guys tell me the solver, boundary conditions and discretization schemes??
