Segmantation Fault - Mixture model + granular option
 
Hi everyone,

i want to simulate 2-phase flow through a pipe, where the primary phase is liquid & the secondary is solid.
I turned on the multiphase option in models and chose mixture model including slip velocities. I can choose the primary & secondary phases and run a simulation, but as soon as I turn on the granular option I get a segmentation fault as soon as I start simulating.

Is anybody familiar with this problem?

I have had a similar problem using a similar model.

In my experience, fluent will give you a "segmentation fault" when it has looked for something that isn't there.

You get them all the time when setting up this type of model, and it's usually due to a problem with the way you have defined the materials, species, phases, the options for how the phases interact etc. you have to ensure these all suit the needs of the model you're trying to run.

In my experience the best way to do it is to find & do a tutorial that uses this model. once you're finished, try and set up your own case as close as you can keep to the tutorial.

I tried the granular option with the euler model and there were no problems. I still haven't figured it out in the mixture model. I'll try to vary the parameters as you said.

Do you have any tutorials for the mixture model with granular option? I haven't found any yet. I would appreciate it very much.

Any further advice is appreciated.

Raiz, This is just a suggestion, and I don't have lots of experience with this type of model, but have you considered the possibility that the reason the Euler-granular model does not work with a mixture model is that it only works with a Euler-Euler model ?
Why do you want to use the mixture model if you already have a working euler-euler solution (that's arguably more accurate) ?

Thanks for the suggestion.
The reason I wanted to use the mixture model is that there already is a similiar simulation which used the mixture model, but I dont know where I went wrong or where selected wrong input parameters. Secondly I wanted to understand what I did wrong when using the model, plus the calculation time is shorter when using mixture model.

How did you get different phase velocities using mixture velocity data.
