Modelling of Bubble Formation

Since September 2015 I have been working on my dissertation on modelling bubble formation in ink filling systems i.e. filling inkjet printer cartridges and fountain pens with ink. I decided to work with Fluent as I was trained in it in my previous years at university, however this is my first attempt at working with multiphase flow.

I have followed many guides and read many papers on the VOF method but I despite this I have run into numerous problems as I try to balance time step, mesh size and inlet velocity such as large courant numbers, long processing times/ large file size and divergence.

I was wondering if anyone could offer any advice on how best to attempt to balance these variables to avoid these problems.

I would appreciate any advice greatly as I have hit a brick wall with my attempts at solving my problems.
