Mixing two miscible Liquids (FuelOil-nPentane) in pipeline

Hi, I'm trying to model the mixing of two hydrocarbons, Fuel Oil (C19H30) and n-Pentane (C5H12). in a 8in pipe. the fuel oil goes in the pipe of 8inch and the n -pentane injected by 1in pipe.

inside the pipeline there is a static mixer (1m).

i want to model the mixing of pentane in Fuel oil a long the pipe.

i'm trying to use VOF model but i dont know if the mass transfert efects must be neglected. or if the right method for this porpose.
do you have somes advices for this kind of simulation?
thank you in advance...

Geoffrey.

Geoffrey,
Good question: this is probably more suitable for a single phase simulation with components. In this case, assuming you're running an isothermal or adiabatic simulation, you'll want your viscosity and density to vary as a function of composition. Define your two components, n-pentane and fuel oil (nonadecane?). You can either have fluent perform the density and viscosity blending calcs itself, or you could program your own UDF/custom mixing rules for viscosity and density. If you need help with this, let us know.

Hi Geoffrey

Have you found the best model for your problem? I'm trying to simulating a case that's similar to yours but probably simpler than yours. Basically I have a channel that's pre-filled with fluid 1 (eg. glycerol solution) and then fluid 2, which is miscible with fluid 1 (eg. water) is injected into the channel. I'm trying to model the interfacial phenomena (instabilities) during this process. Any idea what's the best model for this? many thanks!
